Clay girls win Tiger relays

Senior Kathy Mathis won both the Shot Put and Discus throw, freshman Jenna Wilson won the Long Jump and Clay's relay squads had a good day as Clay County captured the third annual Tiger Relays Friday at Tiger Stadium. Knox Central won the boys division with the Tigers taking fourth place.

The Clay girls (Beth Sester, Jordan Phillips, Tara Wright & Jenna Wilson) were third, behind South Laurel and Leslie County in the 4x100 meter relay. Clay (Wilson, Phillips, Susan Henson & Brittany Collins) won the 4x200 meter relay for freshmen and under) and Clay (Sester, Phillips, Henson and Kayla Swafford) placed second behind South Laurel in the 4x200 relay.

Here are the other relay results for the Clay girls: *3rd - 4x400 Meter Relay (Phillips, Henson, Swafford & Wilson): *1st - 4x800 Meter Relay (Henson, Collins, Keisha Mathis & Swafford); *2nd - 800 Sprint Medley (Tara Wright, Sester, Phillips & Swafford); *2nd Distance Medley (Collins, Swaffard, Mathis & Telisha Copeland).

NOTE: CCHS Girls Track Coach, Charles Doll was back with his squad on Friday after a brief stay in the hospital. He is doing fine.

Coach Denver Word's Tigers were without the services of seniors Adam Reid and Drew Couch due to various circumstances. Freshman Phillip Thompson placed fourth in the Long Jump and James Mills was seventh in the Discus Throw. Here are the Clay boys relay results: *4th - 4x100 Meter Relay (Robbie Tomlin, Matthew Word, John Wilson & Cameron Rice), *3rd 4x200 Meter Relay (Thompson, Rice, Tomlin & Dwight Scalf), 2nd - 4x400 Meter Relay for freshmam and under (Thompson, Tomlin, Wilson & Word); *3rd - 4x400 Meter Relay (Thompson, Rice, Tomlin & Scalf) *4th - 4x800 Meter Relay (Rice, Word, Scalf & Andrew Vaughn), *4th - 800 Sprint Medley (Word, Rice, Thompson & Scalf).
