Bobcats Blitz Rockets

The much-improved Burning Springs Bobcats (3-0) had 219 yards of total offense in their 12-0 win over Goose Rock Saturday in one of four Clay County Bowl games featuring local elementary teams. In the August 26th regular season opener, the Bobcats struggled to beat the Rockets 6-0.

Daniel Sumner rushed for the Bobcats first two scored (eight and 32 yards) and finished with 84-yards rushing on five carries. He also caught a 20 yard pass from quarterback John Wilson. Wilson had a five yard touchdown run in the second period. His 51 yard run helped set up the Cats first score. Logan Westerfield ran two yards for a touchdown in the final period.

Wilson rushed five times for 68 yards and had three tackles (two for losses). Sumner had two tackles, one for a loss. Zac Kemp rushed two times for 32 yards and had a fumble recovery and had two successful conversion runs. He also had four tackles.

Wilson, who was named the Cat's Most Valuable Player, and Noah Reid also had conversion runs. Reid, the Bobcat fullback, had 35 yards rushing on eight carries. He led the Cats with five tackles.

Eric Smith led the Rockets with 47 yards rushing and had five tackles. He was selected the Rocket MVP. Matthew Mitchell gained 33 yards, including a 22 yard run as time expired in the first half. He left the game in the third period with a strained left knee.
