Clay hung tough despite being out hit 14-4. Owensboro scored an unearned run in the second and added another run in the third while Clay struggled to get their hits to fall.

Clay County's best chance to score came in their first at bat when the started the game with three straight singles. However; Tyler Young was caught stealing just before John Wilson singled to right center. Wilson moved to third on a single up the middle by Todd McDaniel. But pitcher Brandon Griffin lined out hard to the second baseman for the second out and third baseman Josh England hit a hard liner to center field that was caught to end the inning.
