Clay County stumbles
at No. 18 Cawood

Lady Tigers end regular season 19-7

Eighteenth ranked Cawood (19-6) scored the first eight points and cruised to a 69-32 win over visiting Clay County on Senior Night, Thursday. The Lady Tigers didn't score until Amanda Gilbert's basket at the 4:02 mark. A steal and lay up by Savanna Wynn put the Trojanettes up 10-2 with 3:16 to play. Clay got a three-pointer from Paige Jackson at 1:51 to trim the deficit to five but that was as close as the Lady Tigers would get.

Cawood out scored the Lady Tigers 23-11 over the next 10 minutes to post a 33-16 lead at the half. Natash Boggs and Savanna Wynn led the charge with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Amanda Gilbert and Kari Ealy had five each for Clay at the break. The host team extended the lead to 52-23 after three periods.

One of the few bright spots for the Lady Tigers (19-7) was the play of freshman Jenna Wilson, who scored nine of her team-best 11 points in the final period. Amanda Gilbert finished with nine points; Ealy had five; Jayme Gilbert, four; and Paige Jackson, three.

Cawood, who had beaten Jackson County and Rockcastle County earlier in the season, can now boast of victories over the top three teams in the powerful 49th district. Wynn led the winners with 27 points; Boggs added 18 and Brittany Lloyd finished 13.
